On May 11, 2014 The Irish Team racing community lost a dear friend Graham Elmes. ‘Elmo’ was not only a keen team racer but made a huge contribution to the development of our sport.
In honour of his memory and spirit the Royal St George Yacht Club is running “The Elmo Trophy”:
The Irish Team Racing Nationals were held over the 8th and 9th November 2014 in Schull, West Cork. Following a great weekend, 170 races using 4 flights (24 boats) 21 teams competed for the National championships. The 65th Wilson Trophy was marked by high winds and innumerable cups of tea as competitors and umpires waited for suitable sailing conditions. Sailing was delayed on Friday afternoon, and with average wind speeds of 27 knots, plus 35 knot gusts, there was no racing on Sunday.
On the 20th-22nd of February, the Irish University Sailing Association Inter-Varsities Championships took place in Wexford Harbour Boat and Tennis Club. 25 teams from 9 colleges around the country, including 2 teams from Scotland competed for the annual trophy.
The results of the 2013 Irish Team Racing Association Irish Team Racing Nationals could inspire a strange feeling of déjà vu. Yet again the final was sailed between visitors Wessex Exempt and local team the George Knights. Once again, Wessex Exempt, this year’s Wilson Trophy winners, emerged as overall winners, with the George Knights as Irish Champions.
